Kate: An Intro

Who the hell is Kate Moss?, someone may ask, and I may respond, "THE MOST AMAZING WOMAN IN THE WORLD, THAT'S WHO" with hearts in my eyes, and drool on my chin. I may also respond with – after this declaration, of course! – a deep, weaving novel on exactly who Kate Moss is, and why I think she's amazing; "Kate, the definition of a model icon, the very poise of the fashion world, and a 37-year-old model who's reigned the 90s, 00s and what looks to be the two-thousand eleventh... 's. Or something".

Kate Moss has been a force of nature in the modelling world and her own personal life. Kate has been in the cause of controversy and in the midst of it, and she's come out on top every time. Right beside controversy, Kate's attributes – the good, the bad, the heroic! – have been key instruments in making her who she is now: her lack of concern for nudity – "it's just work", she was once quoted as saying – her height at 5'7", which is quite short for a model, and her looks, with naturally brown hair, hazel eyes, and a thin build. Kate is truly an icon in her own right, and since her debut in the late 80s, continues to sweep the fashion world off it's feet time and again.

Kate

Kate Moss – real name Katherine Ann Moss – was born in Croyden, London, England of the UK on January 16th, 1974. Kate was discovered at age 14 in 1988 by Sarah Doukas, the founder of Storm Management. Kate went on to shoot her first set with legendary photographer, Corrine Day, in July 1990 for the late British magazine, The Face. This jump started a career that would go on to define the 90s waif look, and define Kate into the model that she is today.

In 1990, Kate became the face of Calvin Klein, and in 1993, the image of controversy, starring in the Calvin Klein campaign termed "Heroin Kids". Between 1996 and 1998, Kate became engaged and split up with Johnny Depp, and later entered into a facility for exhaustion. In 2002, Kate gave birthday to a daughter, Lila, with ex-boyfriend Dazed & Confused editor, Jefferson Hack. Kate shot a shoot with photographer Juergen Teller.

Kate met Pete Doherty, the former frontman for Libertines, in 2005. Also in 2005, both Kate and Pete were involved in a drug scandal, where Kate was allegedly doing drugs. Kate went on to not only submit herself into rehab in October of that year, but to submit a public apology; though she was questioned by police, Kate was lifted of any charges. During this time, Kate received support from late fashion designer Alexander McQueen, artist Stella Vine, as well as Dior – in essence – when they were one of very few to keep Kate's contract with the brand.

In 2006 and 2007, Kate began to rise to the top once more, landing ad campaigns all over the world, and gracing the covers of Vogue IT, Vogue UK and W. In 2008, Kate became engaged to Jamie Hince, one half of the British band, The Kills; also in 2008, she started to design her own fashion line with Topshop, labelled Kate Moss for Topshop. In 2009, she renewed contracts with Stella McCartney, Longchamp and Versace; in September 2010, Kate graced the cover of Vogue UK, which would also be her 100th appearance in the magazine; in July 2011, Jamie and Kate eloped.

Career

Although she was discovered in the late eighties, Kate's career didn't truly jump-start until 1990's The Face cover and shoot, 1992's Yves Saint Laurent ad campaign, and 1993's Calvin Klein campaign. I've split Kate's career into three sections: 1990-2000, 2001-2010 and Currently, which will feature Kate's work from 2011 on; while I'd love to list everything Kate has ever done – and maybe I will, don't think that impossible feat has slipped my mind – I'm also splitting each section into her more famous work. ... And other bits I love, because I can't possibly help myself!
